The principle of electrochemical substitution of metal carbonyls has been applied to monosubstituted derivatives M(CO)5PR3 (M = Cr, Mo, W) with the aim of selective prepa-ration of di-and trisubstituted products M(CO)4(PR3)(PR'3) or M(CO)3(PR3)(PR'3)2. It is shown that, due to simultaneous replacement of CO and PR3 mixtures of products are formed.
