Die Kriegsflotten der griechischen Städte im römischen Herrschaftsbereich (2.–1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.)
[The Naval Forces of the Hellenic Cities under Roman Domination (2nd to 1st Centuries BC)]
Aims and Scope
In spite of growing general interest in the Hellenistic polis generally and its military organisation in particular, the navies of these cities have not been systematically studied. This work studies the subject on the basis of the epigraphic evidence, which is presented in a separate volume of sources. The texts reveal that many poleis continued to operate warships while they were being incorporated into the Roman Empire.
