Responsibility for Refugee and Migrant Integration
Ed. by Kehoe, S. Karly / Alisic, Eva / Heilinger, Jan-Christoph
must read for politicians, NGOs and people interested in current state of affairs
Aims and Scope
In the wake of the recent influx of refugees in Europe, private individuals have stepped up to support the well-being of refugees in numerous ways. Their activities have been perceived as gestures of goodwill or as generous expressions of voluntarism, charity, philanthropy, and Willkommenskultur – and less as discharging an individual moral obligation or responsibility. This volume will contribute to creating a more precise conceptual and normative understanding of the important contributions that individuals have made and are making to the integration of newcomers into various levels of society. The chapters present and explore concrete cases of refugee and/or migrant integration from different perspectives, disciplines and time periods. The collection will expose readers to new research on and experiences of migration and integration and will shed light on both the potential and the limitations of individual responsibility in this context.
