Aims and Scope
In Europe, numerous towns and cities changed nationalities as a result of wars that took place between the period starting around 1850 (when, in the context of historicism, the expression of national identities in architecture was also in question) until after 1945 (when a modern international style had prevailed almost everywhere). The present volume compiles the findings of two conferences at which the consequences of these changes on architecture were discussed. Of particular note are the following regions: the German-Danish border region Schleswig; the German-French border region Alsace-Lorraine; the German-Polish border region formerly known as Posen-West Prussia; the former Habsburg border region Bukovina; the Austrian-Italian border region South Tyrol and Trentino; as well as Trieste and Slovenia.
