Friedrich Hebbels Arbeit an Schiller
Die Schiller-Rezeption in Hebbels Ästhetik und Dramatik
[Friedrich Hebbel's Reception of Schiller in his Aesthetic and Dramatic Works]
Series:Deutsche Literatur. Studien und Quellen 32
Aims and Scope
The dramatic works of Hebbel, who in the final year of his life received the first Schiller Prize ever awarded, were the result of a continuous engagement with Schiller’s work. This engagement was by no means one-sided. Hebbel’s reception of Schiller is marked by a fascinating ambivalence that moves between critique and appropriation. It appears that even when (or especially if) one tries to write against someone, one ends up writing with them.
