    Aims and Scope

At the end of the 19th century, a new decorative style arose from the British Arts and Crafts Movement: Art Nouveau. The superb collection of Ferdinand Wolfgang Neess, which is fully documented in this volume, vividly demonstrates how Art Nouveau sought to reinvigorate the domain of art with the forms and patterns of the natural world. Encompassing furniture, paintings, pastels, sculptures, as well as glass, porcelain, and ceramic objects, the collection showcases major currents in the Art Nouveau movement, as well as prominent representatives of Art Nouveau and Symbolism. Adorned with striking new photographic images of over 700 works from masterful artists such as Behrens, Gallé, Klimt, Mucha, and Riemerschmid, the catalog is a companion to the new permanent collection on display at Museum Wiesbaden.
