The Central Association of German Citizens of Jewish Faith (C.V.) was founded in 1893 in response to anti-Semitism. It attempted to counter hostility through education and legal resistance. Although the C.V. was among the largest Jewish organizations, it has been largely ignored by scholars. This volume examines the C.V. in its work of resistance, as an intellectual movement and as a political actor.
