  • Modern instrumentation in environmental sciences is very powerful, yet it may be a kind of double-edged sword. It frequently happens that potential users of modern instruments are not well aware of the real possibilities and limitations of the instruments they intend to use. Because of this, the recoded data may be affected by errors that could eventually lead to wrong conclusions. This book is ideally suited to introduce post graduate students in modern instrumentation used in environmental sciences. The style is plain in order that the book may be grasped by as large an audience as possible. No prior knowledge of physics is required to understand the working principle of instruments. I strongly recommend this book.

  • This book looks at the new technologically advanced instruments as powerful tools of investigation in environmental sciences. Nowadays the knowing, competence and skill in the use of modern electronic instrumentation are essential for the resolution of problems related to the research activities in many fields such as hydrology, hydraulics, oceanography, meteorology and other environmental sciences. This book offers then a valuable introduction to this modern instrumentation for a graduate student beginning a research career in environmental sciences, who is confronted with a two-fold question: which particular instrument should be purchased, and how to be fully aware of the capabilities and possible errors when using the instrument for collecting data. The way data can be transmitted and stored is also covered at an appropriate level. The book is written in a plain style and the authors have made every effort in order that the book may be self-contained. I absolutely recommend this book.
