Editorial

From the journal Linguistics Vanguard

All hands on deck, ready to sail!

As production for Volume 4 of the Linguistics Vanguard comes to an end, we would like to take the opportunity to update you, our readers, on this past year’s activities and provide you with a brief look ahead.

First, a big heartfelt thanks to all of our Area Editors for soliciting new articles, (co)editing special issues, and carrying out the editorial tasks that are so essential to the success of the journal. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Area Editors completing their terms, John Hajek, Martin Hilpert, Gary Holton, Niels Schiller, and Suzanne Evans Wagner. At the same time we would to extend a heartfelt welcome to our new Area Editors, who will join us in 2019: Diana Forker, Alice Gaby, Mie Hiramoto, Laurel Mackenzie, Arne Nagels, Klaus Sinnemäki, Rebecca Starr, Eva Wittenberg and Igor Yanovich!

For 2018, we published about a dozen articles in our general issue and more than twenty articles in our two special collections, “The Role of Predictability in Shaping Human Language Sound Patterns” (edited by Jason Shaw and Shigeto Kawahara) and “The Acquisition of Information Structure” (edited by Christine Dimroth and Bhuvana Narasimhan). Currently, another dozen individual articles and four other special collections are in the pipeline or in production. These will be published in the course of 2019.

As you can see, Linguistics Vanguard has become an important venue for (guest) editors of special collections. The fact that Linguistics Vanguard is a quick and flexible publication channel without any compromises regarding quality makes it of great value as an outlet for scholars who want to disseminate concise papers on a topic of emerging interest in a timely manner. Many of our special collections developed out of workshops and conferences, but also in one case as a collection of invited papers from the participating faculty at a special summer school. We invite potential guest editors of special collections to get in touch with us or the relevant Area Editors to discuss options and details.

Linguistics Vanguard has its own Twitter Channel (@lingvanguard) with currently more than 1,000 followers. Our frequent tweets include call for papers, publication announcements, some travel news from our editors (i.e. where to meet them), and much more.

Finally, we also like to thank all of our authors for their contributions that are the heart and soul of the journal, the many reviewers whose invisible work is of the utmost importance, and you, the readers who serve as our audience. As always, we thank all of the members of the team at De Gruyter who have supported the journal and especially our editorial assistant Marie-Christine Benen.

We look forward to another exciting year bringing innovative, high-quality research to you in 2019!
